Body Fragments/organs being sold illegally in the U.S

Body Fragments/organs being sold illegally in the U.S
By:Denise Ortiz

On December 5th, 2016 a female girl named Denise found a news story about people selling an organ of themselves illegally for money to black markets. The news scare revealed that some people even sell body fragments from corpses to people to make money. This is very dangerous because the people who sold an organ from their body to someone else could go to jail. As well many of the people who bought an organ/body fragment from a black market from a living person or corpse could be at risk of being infected with a disease that the past owner could of had. Putting the united state citizen buyer more at risk of dying than living. As well as selling the body fragments/organs illegally to united states citizens is violating many human rights. Yet again the sellers of the organs (that of course have a healthy organ) could save thousands of people’s lives by selling them a body fragment/organ.

In the article Market For Black Market Organs Expands by, Tammy Leitner and Lisa Capitanini, there was information found about people selling an organ for Money to black markets. Selling body fragments/organs for human benefits or human transferrin is against the law. Therefore the people who sell their organs for money can end up prison. The article Market for black market Organs expands states that “receiving or transferring any human organ for human transplantation in exchange for money or consideration is against the law and can be punishable with prison time, a fine of up to $50,000, or both.” This shows how selling an organ for money in the U.S is illegal and comes with many consequences to those who sold a body fragment illegally.

In Chicago and Detroit there was a black market found that sold human bodies and human fragments to many United State citizen buyers. Many of these bodies (corpses) were originally donated for medical research but Instead were resold to other people including the public clients. According to the article Big money being made selling body parts in Detroit and Chicago “companies sold bodies and human parts that were donated for medical research on a “thriving black market for body parts.” It seems that the remains were not only being sold to buyers in the United States, but also to clients on the international market.” This became a problem because the body fragments that were sold could off been from diseased people. That would cause health effects on the patient that got the body fragment.  According to the article Big money being made selling body parts in Detroit and Chicago “A prevalent fear is that some of the body fragments that were donated and then sold may have been from diseased cadavers, thus posing a huge risk to the public’s health.” Making it a huge risk and problem to the public because the citizens could die due to a disease they could get from the organ/body fragment (of the past owner) that they had implanted into them.

Yet if people sold their organs to black markets for money… then the organ(s) could end up helping the life of someone in need of an organ. It could even save many people’s lives and could give them another chance to live. According to the article Market for black market Organs Expands “statistics indicate about one patient dies each day while on the waiting list for an organ,” This shows how many patients die while waiting for an organ. The black market that sells the organs could help save time and lives of people in need of an organ such as the life of Daniel Perez. According to the author Market for black markets Organs expands  "It's tough to hear about people who could buy a kidney when there's people like myself waiting patiently for years to receive one," said Daniel Perez, who was diagnosed with kidney failure about two years ago. The 35-year-old Logan Square resident has been on a waiting list for 18 months, and until there’s a compatible donor” This young man was diagnosed with kidney failure and has been waiting for a donor for 18 months now. Showing how the black market (that sells organs) can save the life of Daniel Perez. Since patience like Mr.Perez have to wait for many years until the doctors find a donor for him. According to the article Market for black market Organs Expands “Patients like Perez have to wait on average three to six years for an organ. It's that kind of desperation that has led some to extreme measures to circumvent the national organ donor list.” This shows how many people die due to waiting to long for an organ transplant.“The U of C program has about 650 patients on the list for an organ, and there are more than 122,000 people nationally on the waitlist” This shows how 122,000 lives can be saved if they get an organ/body fragment from the black market. The black market could help thousands of people. If only the black market were to become legal and safe.

In the article Why Legalizing Organ Sales Would Help to Save Lives, End Violence  it states that organ transplants have saved many people’s lives while also having a healthy life. According to the the lawyer of Levy Izhak from the article “It has been deemed the first proven case of black market organ trafficking in the United States. “His lawyers argue that his lawbreaking was benevolent: “The transplants were successful and the donors and recipients are now leading full and healthy lives." This shows how the lawyer of Levy Izhak Rosenbaum proved that organ transplants from black markets (being sold illegally) have saved many people from dying. The author stated that volunteers who would sell an organ could become legal and save many people. According to Levy Izhak “Indeed, why are organ sales illegal? Donors of blood, semen, and eggs, and volunteers for medical trials, are often compensated. Why not apply the same principle to organs?” Many people could be payed to save a life. Making them a hero for the injured person and the injured person helping them by paying them. It would be a win- win situation.According to the article Why Legalizing Organ Sales Would Help to Save Lives, End Violence “Yet, the organ trade continues to operate in the shadows and questionable activities occur in the medical establishment under the color of law. Even today, doctors sometimes legally harvest organ tissue from dead patients without consent.” This shows how doctors have done it before. Why not continue doing it to save others. What do you think about this, Is the black market good or bad for U.S citizens?

As I researched I noticed that some human rights were being violated by this conflict. Selling body fragments illegally in black markets in Chicago and Detroit has ended up violating many human rights. Some of the human rights that are being violated by this are the right to life and the right to your own things. If everyone has the right to life then they are suppose to feel safe. Don’t you agree? According to the human rights: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.” This shows how everyone has the right to life. (to feel secure/safe) but they aren't safe if they get a disease from someone else due to an organ transplant or a different body fragment transplant. The person who bought the body fragment from the black market could of gotten it to safe his/her own life or to save someone’s life. But the person that would get the body part could have the risk of getting a disease of the corpse or living donor who gave them the body part. Therefore the right to life would be violated, because you wouldn't be safe from getting an organ that didn't get checked (doctors didn't see if the organ/body fragment was healthy or not). As well as the right to your own things… According to human rights “Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.” This shows how EVERYONE has the right to their own things. Such as to their own body parts/organs. I know that some of the body fragments come from corpses to be given to other people…  but that corpse was once a living person. They (the corpses)  have the right to their own things (the right to their own body) it wouldn't be nice if someday you were to die and wanted to die peacefully and in one piece. But instead being sold to some strangers and being cut up and destroyed. That is just not nice. They should let that person die in peace and with the right to their own things.

The way we can solve this conflict/danger is by having organization's where living donors can give their organs to someone successfully and without having neither the donor or patience being hurt. Or by having police men track down black markets and close them. Or by providing easier methods to help people to get an organ. Making black markets run out of business and close. According to Stop Organ Trafficking Now! “(1) making it easier for American living organ donors to donate organs under safe and financially secure conditions, and (2) stopping illegal organ trafficking by making it easier for Americans to help their fellow Americans.” This website shows how people can help stop this conflict from expanding (stop black markets from selling organs illegally or stop black markets selling diseased Organs.) Visit the website STOP ORGAN TRAFFICKING NOW! Working to Protect the Rights of Living Organ Donors for more information about how you can help stop people from getting diseased or hurt due to an organ transplant that was not checked/ or cared for. Or how to stop the black market.

Endangered Mountain Animals

Reader Response
e questions
The non-fiction book I read is titled Endangered Mountain Animals by Dave Taylor. This books is about many different endangered animals that are forced to live in the mountains. Many of these animals become endangered due to the human activity in their habitats. By this I mean that people are cutting down their trees and building on these habitats. They also become endangered due to people hunting them for many things. Some of the animals that are endangered are the snow leopard, sacred baboon, brown bear, mountain gorilla and many more. This book also provides information about the animal and its background. Such as its height, weight, the food they eat, habitat, the animal's skill and much more.

A passage I found interesting from the book was "Egyptians used these baboons as helpers and entertainers. Sometimes the baboons helped them fish, stack wood, do field work, and even serve wine at coronations ( Page 20)." I found this passage interesting because I didn't know that the sacred baboon was used for many things in the past by Egyptians. Especially the baboons were used to serve wine on coronations. It's like these baboons were small humans who worked as a human. It must of been cute seeing them serve wine for people but it must of been sad and hard for the baboons to work as a human. To work on stacking wood or fishing or even do a field. It must of been tiring for them. This is why this passage got my attention.

Some of the things I learned in the book Endengered Mountain Animals by Dave Taylor, were that there are four types of flamingos. I didn't know that there were different types of flamingos. As well as I didn't know that the Andean Flamingo ate crustaceans. The other thing I learned was that crustaceans aren't visible to the human eye unless you use a magnifying glass. So that's I also learned that snow leopards have big lungs and s strong chest that makes it easy for them to breathe easily at high altitudes. I learned that the female brown bear has cubs almost every year. They teach their cubs how to hunt and find the correct plants to eat for a year. Once the cubs learn how to hunt and find plants the mother chases her   cubs away so they can find this rown territories. Leaving the Female bear free to have another set of
cubs. These are some of the things I learned from this book that I am not mostly likely to forget in the near future.

Gratitude Blog

I am grateful for many things this year. One of the things I am greatful for this year is having a new member in the Torres family. I am grateful for having a new member in the Torres side of the family because it brings happiness to the family. It also makes the entire family Torres see the baby named Benjamin (named after my grandfather) grow and do many things. It makes the people in the family remember of when they were young. Of when they were little trouble makers and break many things. Having a new member in the family brings everyone together. It makes the family know that Benjamin will be raised among a loving, carrying, helpful family. He will grow into a happy young man of importance.

I am also greatful for having my own family with me. I am greatful for having my mom and dad who have been there for me, supporting me all this time since I was born. For making me the person I am right now. For showing me that there is good in this world. That not everyone is mean and cruel. I am greatful for having my siblings because without them I wouldn't remember how I was when I was their age. I am greatful for having them because helping my parents raise them has made me a more responsible person.
I am greatful for having my siblings because thanks to them they made me a big sister. They made me a more caring person, a more happy person even if they make me mad at times I still love them. I am thankful for having my siblings because they make me feel special. They make me feel important. I am thankful for having a crazy and supportive family.

I am thankful for having the opportunity to get an education. For having the opportunity to learn, to become someone in the future. For being able to have the opportunity to have a job in the future. For being able to have freedom. I am greatful for being independent and not having to depend on anyone for anything as I get older. I am grateful for having the chance to live my life. I am greatful for making my parents proud and happy. I'm am thankful for learning new things everyday at school and giving it my best every day. Making them proud by getting good comments from teachers. These are some of the things I am greatful for that are in my life this year.

Article of the Week

Article of the week impression

Today during ELA I learned many new things that are happening around the world by my peers. One of these things that got my attention was the presentation that David Torres presented. His presentation was about how guns are more likely to harm you than to protect you. His presentation surprised me because people would usually think (including me) that when other people own a gun it's to protect themselves from danger. But now that I saw David's presentation I learned that's it's not true.

David's presentation thought me that guns are more likely to harm you than to protect you. According to David's presentation people who own a gun are more likely to commit suicide or murder. This helped me learn about how guns are dangerous since people who own a gun are more likely to commit murder. This idea scares me because knowing that there are many people who own a gun all around the world can really mess with my head at times now. It makes me feel like I'm not safe around people who are armed(who have guns) anymore. Because if all of the sudden there is a person that hates me or is going threw a tough time... then that person could kill me. As well as the people who own a gun end up having the idea to commit suicide scares me because many of my family members own a gun in Mexico. I would be broken if one of them committed suicide for some reason.

Election day Reflection

Election Reflection

My thoughts on the election results are here and there. I know Donald Trump won the elections and that the people who voted for him are happy and probably excited. But... the people that didn't want Trump to win... well we aren't too happy. I really don't know how Trump can see all the Mexicans as drug dealers and killers I know some of the mexicans are but not all of them. Most of us have/got an education, got a good job with a nice house and a family. I feel like if Donald Trump would meet the mexicans who work hard and help others are are kind... then he would see that most of Mexicans are good. That we Mexicans actually matter and that we all have a heart. What I mean by saying that we matter is that just because not many of us Mexicans have "papers" it doesn't mean that mexicans aren't capable of doing good in this world. If we were given the chance to prove to Donald Trump and rest that we can get good jobs and do good in this world then the Americans and Mexicans would get along. As well as if the mexicans who well sell "drugs and do crimes" were given a chance to get an education and get a good job for being able to graduate from high school and go to college then if not all then most of the violence with the Mexicans would stop.

Some issues I think will be the most interesting in relation to the election results are the way the immigrants (Mexicans) in the U.S.A will react now that Donald Trump is president. One thing is for sure is that if not most then all the Mexicans will never support Donald Trump on the things he will want to do that will go agents the Mexicans. As well as even more Mexicans  will become more violent due to Donald Trump wanting to do things that will go agents the Mexicans. They will become more violent and will try to make Donald Trump quit being president but He won't quit. I'm curious to see how much America will change during these four years Donald Trump will be president. Curious to know how the people will change. I believe and hope that The Congress and Senate will make the right choices when Donald Trump hands out a bill that will only harm many people in many different ways.

I'm excited to vote in the next election because I will be able to vote and actually be able to pick who I will vote for and why I will vote for that person. My vote and opinion on voting and that specific person will actually matter and be important. I'm excited to vote in the next election too because I will be able to vote for someone else to be President and not have Donald Trump be President anymore. As well as when I vote for that person/candidate I will have my own reasons and beliefs  for why I voted for that specific person and not the other candidate. Just like how the people who voted for Donald Trump had their reasons and beliefs on why they chose him.

The Brave

“The Brave”

There are many people out there who care about themselves.
People that don't really pay attention to the world they live in.
People who don't support or honor the people who have done good in this world. Since most of us are too scared to fight back for what is right.

People who think they are brave and fearless but they really aren't.
I guarantee you that most of the people would be scared.
Scared to death If they fought in a war for one single day without getting injured.
Now Imagine if they did get injured while fighting I guarantee you that they would hate their life.

We all walk to and from school safely we have a nice dinner and breakfast
A nice warm shelter and clothing but especially our freedom thanks to them
Thanks to our brave soldiers who have done so much for America
To keep America and their family safe, thanks to their courage and bravery.

The sacrifices our veterans went through for America's  sake. These veterans were brave for us.
The pain our soldiers are going right now in this very moment to keep us safe
Safe from harm, next time you see a veteran thank them for all they have done for us. It's the least we can do to show our love and respect towards them.

News Story

On Saturday October 22, 2016 in Berwyn IL, a story about a woman who died five days after she found out she had metastatic cancer was revealed. A women around her 30s started out with a simple cold after coming home from work. The women lasted three days with high fever. Before her husband around age 35 decided to take her to the hospital. The doctors attended the women and did tests on her. Later that day the results came out saying she had metastatic cancer. Metastatic cancer is when the cancer is at stage five. This stage means that the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body. The doctors tried to treat the cancer by doing chemotherapy on the women but she passed away on the fifth days.

The women's sister age 33 (name not found) stated that the women would complain about having stomach pain for over a year after she would have dinner. Then one day the women came home from work with a simple cold. She lasted three days with a high fever and a cold. Before her husband took her to the hospital. When they got to the hospital the women was attended by a doctor and asked some questions. The doctor did tests on her. Then when the results came out the women was shocked. She was told that she had metastatic cancer. The doctor told her that the cancer had first evolved in her stomach. The doctors did chemotherapy on her to try to save her life. But the cancer was to advanced that there wasn't any hope left. Even though the doctors did all they could to save her life. She sadly died within the five days she found out she had cancer.

1st quarter Reflection

On my 10 book challenge I am on my 4th book right now. I have read The beast keeper by Cat Hellisen, Crank by Ellen Hopkins, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod Twelfth Grade Kills by Heather Brewer. As well as the book i am currently reading  right now The Slayer chronicles Second Chance by Heather Brewer. These book have mystery in them. As well as fantasy but the books also have emotions in them. (by Fantasy I mean Vampires, witches, romance, friendships, adventuresetc.) I like to read books, especially the ones that have romance and mystery in them.

I have progressed on my blog posts a lot since August. I have noticed that in the begging of August I would write... but not as detailed and supportive with claims I had like now. I have improved with my writing skills a lot. I have learned how use correct punctuation... most of the time. I have improved on citing evidence As well. I have learned new words like, Articulate, Meticulous, Ominous, Palpaple, assuage etc. Which have helped me develop my word choice for when I speak or write. The TIQA format has benefited me the most. It helps me stay organized with my writing.

What I have learned about the world is how people would do the Ice bucket challenge so scientists could find a new gene to help people. My goals for the next three quarters are to expand my vocabulary word choice even more. As well as by the end of the year to leave this school prepared for High school's ELA class. To get 3s and 4s in my future grades. My other goal is to accomplish the 10 book challenge by the end of 3rd quarter the lastests.

Giver Vs. Book

One of event from the book that is different from the movie is having Fiona have feelings and emotions for Jonas and making her help Jonas escape from the community with Gabriel. But in the book not a single person helps Jonas escape with Gabriel. The Giver only helps Jonas escape from the community by making a plan but not with Gabriel. “Jonas went over the plan in his head - Jonas and The Giver had gone over it and over it” (158). This shows how in the book “The Giver” helps Jonas escape the community by making a plan but doesn't help Jonas escape with Gabriel. Then in the movie Jonas tells Fiona not to take her shot and she starts to think in Jonas. Making her release she had feelings for Jonas. Making Fiona helps Jonas escape with Gabriel in the end. As well as in the  book Fiona doesn’t have feelings for Jonas it never says in the book she liked Jonas more than a friend. But in the movie she ends up having feelings for Jonas.

The thing that is different from the director showing us the community than how we find out in the book is that in the book you find out how the community is as the book goes on.You get to picture the community how you think it looks like. But in the movie you see how the community is. How the people are how the buildings are. The bicycles are, As in the book you imagine the character’s bike differently. I think the director chose to do it this way was because the audience will have a better understanding of how the setting looks like. As well as a better understanding on how these characters live and how this time in the world is. This changes the story by giving away how the community looks like to the audience. Instead of having the audience figure out and imagine how the setting looks like. Or how the characters look like. Just how the book makes you do that. It makes lyou use your mind and imagine the characters and settings the way you want. It changes the way you see the story when you have a different way or picture of that movie. Like “The Giver” movie.

The Novel impacted most the understanding of The Giver because in the book I get a better understanding on how Jonas feels about the memories he receives. As well as how the world he lives in is different from the world they use to live in. The book is more detailed about the way the characters are and how the community is told. It shows the reader/me how the characters are and how they behave. As well as it attracts the reader into the book when they don’t know how the community is. It makes the reader use his/her mind to imagine the setting and characters. But in the movie the director gives away how the entire setting is.Yes, I know that that's the point about making a movie to have a visual, But the director gives away every little detail to the audience. As well as in the movie the director changes things in the movie. Like how old the characters are. What Jobs the characters get. Fiona gets nurture instead of caring for the old. This changes the story. It also has Jonas and Gabriel have the same birth mark instead of the same pale eyes. These changes confuses the audience. The book makes me have a better understand about The Giver because I can understand why Jonas doesn’t tell Fiona anything about his job and why he doesn’t receive help from the other characters only the Giver. Because there is no coming back for Jonas  he left the community. “So if you escape, once you are gone - and, Jonas, you know you can never return (155). But in the movie Jonas tells Fiona that he will come back for her and the rest. As well as in the book Jonas doesn’t cross anything that is the boundary of where the memories are. But in the movie he does. All the memories go back to all the citizens in the community. This is why I have a better understanding about The Giver threw the book.

Giver Theme

Jonas is a dynamic character because in the beginning he only cares about himself. Then in the end he ends up caring about other people. According to the author “He was left with not the slightest idea - not even a guess- of what his Assignment would be.”(29) This shows how in the beginning Jonas only cared about himself and not anyone else. Then in the end he ended up carrying for other people’s well being like Gabriel. According to the author “He hugged Gabriel and rubbed him briskly, warming him to keep him alive.(179) This shows how Jonas cares about Gabriel that he tries to keep Gabriel warm and alive and not care about himself anymore only about Gabriel. This shows how Jonas is a dynamic character because in the beginning he cares about himself but in the end he ends up caring about someone else’s well being like Gabriel.

One of the themes about ‘The Giver’ is that experiencing pain can change the way you see things. One of the ways Jonas experiences pain and sees things differently was when Jonas sees Asher and the rest playing a war game. He tries hard not to cry since he remembers the war boy who begged him for water before dieing. According to the author “In his mind, Jonas saw again the face of the boy who had laid dying on a field and had begged him for water- Jonas’s shuddering breaths He was struggling not to cry (134). This shows how Jonas feels pain for the boy and people who went to war before. Although Jonas didn't see it as a cruel game before. Making him see the game differently. According to the author “I didn't know it myself until recently. But it’s a cruel game. (Page 134) This shows how Jonas experienced pain and saw the game differently. He saw how playing that game actually represents sadness for the people who died fighting. Before he saw it as a normal game but then he experienced and “lived” the pain and saw it differently. Another example of Jonas experiencing pain is when he goes through the snow sled accident in a memory. According to the author “He fell with his legs twisted under him, and could hear the crack of bone. His face scraped along jagged edges of ice - Then, the first wave of pain came.” (108-109). He feels pain when he experiences thie sled accident. As well as notices that no one in his community has experienced real pain like him and the Giver. “They have never known pain (110) This shows how Jonas sees and realises that no one has ever experienced real pain like him. This is why I say one of the themes from “The Giver” is that experiencing pain can change the way you see things.

The Giver

When I was reading The Giver by Lois Lowry I saw a word of the wiser moment. There hasn't been many word of the wiser throughout chapter 1-4. But the one I found is about the ceremony of twelves and how they get an assignment. In chapter 2, Jonas gets advice from his parents on how the assignment they got was carefully chosen by the elders since it's their job to carefully observe what you do on age 11. "Of course the Elders are so careful in their observation and selections" (Page 16). This shows how Jonas's parents are giving him a lesson on what ever assignment he gets it will be  chosen carefully. As well as he will enjoy the assignment he gets as time goes by. like it in the beginning. "...Yoshika was surprised by her selection as doctor-but she was thrilled." (Page 16) This also shows how Jonas's parents are also giving him advice that even if he gets a job he doesn't like at first he will learn to enjoy it. This is a word of the wiser on how Jonas's parents give him advice and a lesson about the ceremony of 12 and how the assignment he gets will be given to him for a reason and he will enjoy it.

While reading the Giver by Lois Lowry there has been words that repeat again and again. One of these words is release. Which means it's something important because it has been mentioned over and over again when someone makes a mistake. In chapter 1, a pilot had misread the coordinates and tried to go back before someone noticed and he was relased. "A pilot-in-training has misread his navigational instructions-the pilot had been trying to make his way back before his error was noticed. NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED" (Page 2). This shows how the word release is being mentioned because the pilot made a mistake. As well as when Jonas's father comes home and says that a newborn child might not make it and will be released. "A concern about one of the newchildren-he isn't growing well-the committee's beginning to talk about releasing him" (page 7). This shows how the world release is also said here because a child isn't growing well. So the word release must be important if the pilot wanted to turn back b fore someone noticed so he wouldn't be released and the concern look on Jonas's father's face about the baby not growing good to b released. So this word release is said again and again and must be important.

Welcome to my blog

Hi my name is Denise and I am 4 weeks into school. My school year has been interesting so far. I have made new friends and met new teachers. My goal is to graduate with good notes and on the honor roll. My other goal is to go to the Springfield field trip but to be able to be with my friends. I'm excited to see what the school year has for me.

Some of my favorite things to do outside of school is to draw animals. Or I like to watch anime. I have watched Tokyo Ghoul, Blue exorcist, kamisama hajimemashita, Say I love you, Fairy tail and many more. I like to do different things during my free time and not waste my time doing nothing.

Final Reflection

Finall Reflection  Three most important things I learned this year were to always improve your writing, To annotate the articles you read...
